Many of us have challenges in our lives, slowing down progress or creating frustrations or distress that make us feel like there must be more than this, that this can’t be as good as it gets.

But so many of us put off dealing with them, hoping that maybe they’ll resolve themselves or fearing the consequences of meeting them head on. So many of my clients say they put off therapy hoping that they “wouldn’t have to need it”.

But therapy is not a failure! Come and discover that exploring how to tackle your challenges with me is the best investment you can make in yourself and your wellbeing - your future self will thank you!

 Individual Therapy

People seek out therapy for many reasons and stay for varied periods of time - from a few sessions to a few years. My approach is to tailor therapy around your unique traits and qualities, not a ‘one-size fits all’, so that the work is collaborative whilst keeping your priorities and your needs uppermost.

I work with adults and young people from 16 upwards and have experience of and insights into a wide range of life experiences and challenges.

I am an integrative therapist - this means I work by integrating a variety of different therapeutic approaches in the way that best serves the client. This makes my work client focused and unique to what you bring and want to explore. One of the key but optional modalities I offer my clients is Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).

Learn more about Individual Therapy and how I can help you explore the challenges you are facing and navigate your way to a more balanced, satisfying way of living.

Therapy in Nature

If you live close enough to my locality you may want to consider outdoor therapy - where we meet can be a collaborative decision.

This is much like individual therapy but we take the session outdoors, allowing the lack of walls and technology to bring an element of freedom and nature’s regulation to the therapeutic process.

After over a year in lockdown and all the restrictions this brought, some local clients opt for this approach, or a mixture of outdoor and online work. Others have found the move away from technology and the an essential contribution to the therapeutic experience and the bilateral stimulation of walking increases their focus and attentional flexibility.

Group/Team Support

Chris Oxborrow is a psychotherapist providing customised group interventions in North West England and beyond

I have considerable experience working with groups focusing on wellbeing, work-life balance, specific identity issues or life challenges, either from a therapeutic or coaching perspective.

Contact me for a consultation regarding the needs of your group/team/staff to discuss what psychoeducational or wellbeing interventions might be beneficial for them and how I can help enhance your team’s wellbeing, supporting them to develop resilience in their lives and in the workplace.

This might be a one-off workshop, a limited duration course/support group or a more long term intervention addressing working culture and developing robust approaches to work/life balance and team dynamics.

Forthcoming dates for groupwork exploring neurodivergence or supporting people to navigate peri/menopause will be posted on the homepage.

 FAQs

Q: Is therapy right for me?

A: Some people feel concerned that engaging with therapy might mean they’re not coping. On the contrary, accessing support often helps people explore any issues in a safe and non-judgemental space which can lead to feeling more settled and confident.

Q: Will I be able to book in immediately?

A: When you get in contact I can let you know about my availability and if there might be a wait. If you decide to go ahead we can then book an initial free 20 minute conversation to discuss your needs and take it from there.

Occasionally I may assess that an alternative referral may be a better fit for your therapeutic needs but I will discuss this in your initial consultation and give suitable recommendations and offer introductions where requested.

Q: Do you work with autism or other neurodivergence?

A: I have experience in supporting autistic adults and young people often at the beginning of their diagnostic journey, helping them gain a sense of  authenticity and confidence in their neurodivergence, developing the skills to navigate their lives in a largely NT-focused society. I continually assess a client’s needs and make referrals for more specialist therapeutic support where needed.

Q: How long will I need to be in therapy?

A: Therapy can last a few sessions or a number of months but ultimately it is for you to decide.

Q: Do you work with children or teens?

A: I work with adults and adolescents from school year 7 and older. If you’re unsure if I’m the best fit for your teenager, get in touch. I will make appropriate recommendations if I feel an alternative referral better suits your child.
